Xmas Punk Party Gig @ Ostrich Inn

2023 xmas punk party poster

After last years Friday Xmas bash, we thought let’s do it all again!  Originally we thought, this time, we will keep it smaller scale – just a few local bands, a few ales…

Then of course it blew up and has become a four-band (from across the UK) massive night – FREE ENTRY – our Xmas gift to you lot!
Bands, beers, friends and fun – the Scary Clown way, all at our favourite Peterborough boozer, The Ostrich Inn.

LINE-UP:

SPOILERS – Kent’s finest and tightest (and they would say, best looking) melodic punks come back once again to play one of our shows.  Always a joy to host em.
SHACKLEFORD – it took us too long to bring these lot to one of our gigs, and since then we’ve been trying to find another excuse.  Melodic punk with harmonies, just what the dr ordered!
THE ATOMS – talking about tight fast songs, The Atoms are another of our mainstay bands, well Joe is, his line-ups change more frequently than our underwear 😉
PLOT 32 – coming down from Leeds, Plot 32 bring the party with em – drunken ska-punk with songs about murderous butchers and drinking.  What’s not to like?

Skate-aid 8, Punk Rock All Dayer Gig!

Skate-aid 8 all day gig

The Scary Clown Presents…

SKATE-AID 8 With Culture Shock

Charity Punk Rock All Dayer @ Mama Lizs

The Scary Clown Presents annual all-dayer is back! Raising funds for Skate-aid and having a raucous time whilst doing it. Expect bands from across the UK, including acoustic acts and some of the best underground DIY bands both new and old. One-off craft beer, vegan BBQ and wall-to-wall good times x   We are so pleased to finally bring headliners CULTURE SHOCK along to Stamford, it’s a band we’ve been fans of for more years than some of you younger ones have been on this planet.

The day starts at 1pm – when we might start the BBQ up in the lower beer garden.  First music is 1.30pm down in the Voodoo Lounge… then after 4 bands some chill time upstairs for food and acoustic session in the main bar’s backroom.  Then at 6pm we return to the Voodoo Lounge for six more full-on bands!

Children welcome to the upstairs part (no tix required for food/acoustic session) – teenagers are good to all with a responsible adult.  Tickets are required for the 10 bands playing down in the Voodoo Lounge.  Raising money for our regular chosen charity, SKATE-AID – helping kids in war-torn and deprived areas across the world play again.

  • I went out last night to watch Wonk drummer Max Hanman’s band [Sid]. I see hundreds of bands year in year out and so rarely does the music move me. I honestly didn’t expect what I saw. For 20 minutes I forgot to fuckin breathe. Not since the formation of Slaves (and then Clowns) have I seen such a perfect set. Crossover hardcore at its BEST. I’m not saying this coz he’s my friend and drummer. I’m saying this to all my punk friends and promoters because you gotta get on these lovely people. It was the best set of this kind of music I’ve EVER seen. PURE HARDCORE PERFECTION. This was like their 4th gig but they play like they’ve been doing it for years. I would have had to up my game last night not to be blown off stage.  I’m so honoured to have Max in my life, thank you so much for reaffirming my faith in music. XxxAlex Wonk

Spoilers + Pardon Us + Don Blake @ Ostrich Inn

Pardon us and Spoilers and Don Blake Ostrich gig

We’ve got a MASSIVE FREE ENTRY GIG at our 2nd home, the Ostrich Inn (Pboro town center) – a three band UK tour drops in our favourite boozer…

SPOILERS + PARDON US + DON BLAKE
& DAS KAPITANS @ The Ostrich Inn, Peterborough.

Saturday 6th November, 7pm (pubs open from 12 so just come early and enjoy!).
Vegan eats by Taco’s and Flip Flops – amazing Mexican grub available at the pub, so eat and drink and be merry!

Stamford gigs are great, but it’s a bugger to get to, and there are very little places to stay if you’re traveling to a gig – we get you – so we’re paying back our regulars with a bit of a special free gig – this one is on us!

“Brassneck Records presents the Spoilers / Pardon Us / Don Blake 4 day, triple headliner,
long weekend mini-tour. Liverpool, Manchester, Peterborough. Canterbury.”

Those Kent smashers Spoilers [bandcamp] totally blew the roof off when they played the Ostrich last time – people were literally bouncing off the ceiling – it was one hell of a gig!  They love playing to you lot, and apart from Wonk Unit have probably played the most SCP gigs.  Pardon Us [bandcamp] return all the way from Liverpool – for a ‘newish’ band they’ve certainly put out some stunning albums, and they are totally lovely people too.  Don Blake I believe played a very early SCP show – before I joined the collective – but it’s long overdue that they join the party, bringing their melodic skate punk down from Manchester [www.donblake.co.uk].    Opening the night of music will be our local [ish] band Kas Kapitans have been spending 2021 putting out 12 albums!!!   And they are blinking good!

So this gig is totally free – we’ll probably kick off about 7pm – bring money* for drink and merch – buying something from a band really does help them out! * the bar takes card and cash, but bands normally need cold hard Sterling!

Venue:  The Ostrich Inn is our favourite city center boozer – it’s a ‘local’ pub, with proper characters behind the bar.  It’s probably the worst shape for a gig ever, but the owner landlords have put in a stage area, lighting, PA and sound mixer, and you know what, gigs do work there.  It’s as intimate as you’ll ever find!  We’ve had far bigger names in the pub that anyone would ever think, and had some right rowdy nights!  They do great real ales, some craft keg beers, great gins, and hot pies.  It’s not a foodie pub, but you’re in the town center with lots of other grub choices nearby.   There’s a decent-sized car park opposite the pub entrance.  Also a cracking small beer garden out back.   IT WILL BE RAMMED FULL on the night, our gigs always are.

Big Langs’ Virtual BBQ… A Tribute to Matthew Lancaster

Big Langs’ VIRTUAL BBQ…
A Tribute to Matthew Lancaster

*** DUE TO THE CURRENT CORONAVIRUS ISSUES – IT WOULD BE IRRESPONSIBLE FOR US TO BRING YOU ALL TOGETHER AT THIS TIME.  WE HOPE TO  RE-SCHEDULE A PHYSICAL GIG WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

BUT WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING SOONER – SO ARE ORGANISING A GREAT LINE-UP FOR A VIRTUAL GIG INSTEAD, STREAMING ON FACEBOOK.  IT WILL BE FREE – BUT WE WILL WELCOME DONATIONS AS WE STILL WISH TO DONATE TO THE LOCAL HOMELESS CHARITY THAT MATT WOULD HAVE APPROVED OF ***

Our mate and absolute punk-rock legend, Matthew ‘bomber’ Lancaster passed away on 18th August 2019.   He was always first down the front, first to dance, and last to leave at any punk gig he attended – and he went to a LOT of gigs.   Bands around the world knew him – who could miss the loony with the smile plastered on his face and his special pointy dance, crowd surfing, and just all-round fucking good guy.  We know what he’d want in his remembrance would be a bloody big gig – full of happy people, having a dance down the front in his name.

JOIN THIS FACEBOOK GROUPhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/534391720577300/  as it will be streamed there.  If you join upfront you will receive notifications as each artist goes live with their set.

So we’re joining forces with No Gods No Managers to put on one hell of a show on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th May – no longer can it be the original BBQ & Bands events it was going to be – for obvious reasons.  But you can still do your own BBQ, have a few beers chilled and ready, and join us in the daft chat as we enjoy at least six acts per night!

Matty’s brother Paul suggested it be a fundraiser to support homelessness as this was a cause close to his heart, so it’s going to be that too x – the fund-raiser page is here; https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/biglangsgig

Yep we are super fecking chuffed to bring you one of the very first gigs for the return of GUNS N’ WANKERS (WIKI PAGE)!  Duncan Redmonds returns to the Voodoo Lounge, this time bringing his legendary band Guns n’ Wankers with him.  These lads were signed to Fat Wreck Records back in 1994, and split when Snuff re-formed.  But they are back and playing shows this year, and we’ve managed to snaffle one of their first!  Backing them up with their amazing own brand of fast and catchy punk is SPOILERS.  Making a welcome comeback is MISFORTUNE COOKIE – 3/4s of Bear Trade plus the lovely vocals of Helen, they really made an impression at their first SCP outing.  And filling a very exclusive line-up, it’s our very good mates from Cambridge, BEVERLEY KILLS – an absolute joy to welcome them back.
