Wonk Unit + The Deadites @ Ostrich Inn, Peterborough

wonk unit and deadites gig Peterborough
Yes you’ve read that right… the UK DIY Punk kings WONK UNIT are back from their huge European tour and are heading to Peterborough – and playing our favourite boozer: The Ostrich Inn.
That’s just amazing…. so how about we make it FREE ENTRY too!
Full band Wonk Unit, plus Peterborough’s finest melodic punk band The Deadites, who will have copies of their new album (on SCP records), Deadites II.
Facebook even page here – please come and say you’re coming if you are – we suggest turn up early as it may fill up!

We will make sure it’s wrapped up by 10.30pm as it’s a school night.  You’ll be able to tell your grandchildren (or someone else’s!) about this one – I doubt it will ever repeat!

Deadites will probably kick off by 8pm.
Venue:  2022 CAMRA pub of the year (Peterborough); The Ostrich Inn is our favourite city center boozer – it’s a ‘local’ pub, with proper characters behind the bar.  It’s probably the worst shape for a gig ever, but the owner landlords have put in a stage area, lighting, PA and sound desk, and you know what, gigs do work there.  It’s as intimate as you’ll ever find!  We’ve had far bigger names in the pub than anyone would ever think, and had some right rowdy nights!  They do great real ales, some craft keg beers, great gins, and hot pies.  It’s not a foodie pub, but you’re in the town center with lots of other grub choices nearby.   There’s a decent-sized car park opposite the pub entrance.  Also a cracking small beer garden outback.   IT WILL BE RAMMED FULL on the night, our gigs always are.

Bad Cop Bad Cop & Wonk Unit Gig, Stamford 18 May 2023

BCBC and Wonk Unit 2023 May

BAD COP BAD COP & WONK UNIT + Jen Razavi (Jen Bombpop) + Headstone Horrors

Thurs 18th May 2023 – MAMA LIZ’S VOODOO LOUNGE, STAMFORD

Yep you’ve read that right – we have re-secured another top draw Fat Wreck band – coming all the way from California USA, BAD COP BAD COP!!   Unfortunately, the 2021 tour was canceled, and then Nov 2022 was POSTPONED – but finally, BC BC are coming to Stamford in May 2023.  And as they are touring with our best mates Wonk Unit – so just as originally planned.  It’s going to be another HUGE gig – the original 2021 gig sold out (but was replaced by a Wonk & Aerial Salad line-up).

BAD COP BAD COP of Fat Wreck fame will be touring (a delayed album launch) Europe in 2023, and will be playing many of the most famous venues in the UK for the DIY punk scene.  That, of course, includes our very own Mama Liz’s Voodoo Lounge in Stamford!  Don’t ask us how we’ve done it, or how many body parts we’ve had to sell to be able to bring you not only our amazing American headliners but also friends of SCP and leaders of the UK scene, WONK UNIT!   Just buy tickets as soon as you can and stop us going even greyer!

Support from HEADSTONE HORRORS!   + JEN RAZAVI (Jen from the Bombpops!)

SOLD OUT!

Please note this is a THURSDAY NIGHT GIG!  Doors 7:30pm Thursday 18th May 2023 @ Mama Liz’s Voodoo Lounge, Stamford, PE9 1EL

Ticket are £15 for this one – as it’s a massive double headliner banger and it’s going to be a bit special like!  All tickets sold for the Nov 2022 postponed gig are STILL VALID.  If you want  to check you have tickets still – e-mail us at [email protected]

Our gigs at Mama Liz’s are safe places – no dickish behavior will be allowed – come and party and have fun.  Teenagers are fine if with an adult.  This old dedicated venue is a deep cellar with stairs down – so, unfortunately, is NOT very accessible, we all wish it was otherwise.  The main building upstairs is a great bar and restaurant (does bar food and has a large beer garden) – so it’s a cracking place to spend time eating and drinking – from real ales to cocktails.  There’s a car park opposite, which is often free after 6pm.  Stamford is a beautiful historic old stone town – you probably see it on TV quite a bit, so well worth getting there early to look around – it’s a bit posh which makes having punk gigs there all more fun.

BAD COP BAD COP

In a time of chronic rage, happiness is revolutionary.

Bad Cop Bad Cop has done angry. The band’s 2017 full-length, Warriors, was recorded in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election. The Los Angeles quartet’s new full-length, The Ride (Fat Wreck Chords, June 19th), shows what happens when you come out the other side of that anger.

“It’s not that I am just stoked or blind to suffering,” says singer-guitarist Jennie Cotterill. “I think anger is a legitimate and understandable reaction to injustice and wrongdoing. It’s just that for myself, I am trying to move past ‘reaction’ into productive ‘response.’”

The message BCBC is sending this time around is less about wagging your finger at others, or giving the middle one to the Man, than it is about self-love and acceptance. As Cotterill puts it, “Love is a more powerful truth than anger.” That positivity fuels many of The Ride’s tracks: “Originators,” “Simple Girl,” “Community,” “I Choose,” “Perpetual Motion Machine,” and “The Mirage” exude confidence, gratitude, and compassion. In 2020, such things qualify as contrarian.

“These are political statements—self-love is a huge fucking statement,” affirms singer-guitarist Stacey Dee. “Self-love means putting a fix on the problems at home before trying to fix everything in the world. It’s asking people to find it in themselves to create the life that they really want to have so they’re not in turmoil, so they’re not in a place of stress and sickness.”

WONK UNIT & Aerial Salad in Stamford

wonk unit and aerial salad 18 nov stamford

The Scary Clown Presents…

WONK UNIT & AERIAL SALAD

Mama Liz’s Voodoo Lounge, Stamford, Lincs.
Krispy’s 50th Birthday Bash Gig!

SOLD OUT!

BAD COP BAD COP NO LONGER PLAYING (Ask for refund on our FB page)

OK Due to the ongoing COVID situation – more so in Europe, a lot of touring American bands have moved their tours to 2022.  BAD COP BAD COP have just announced today (25th May) that their tour is also now not happening this year, so we’re really sad to say they won’t be playing this show now.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON – and WONK UNIT are still very much on.   Alex suggested that we bring their (and our) good friends AERIAL SALAD in as replacements, and who are we to argue?   The Salad lads have stormed the scene since we put them on in one of their very first gigs, and now are bright lights with a 2nd smashing album.   We will fully refund anyone who now does not wish to attend – contact us via our Facebook page please, plus we will be reducing the ticket price down to £10 so will be issuing £5 refunds later on (no need to contact us!).   It’s also Scary Clown Krispy’s 50th birthday gig – so we’ll be celebrating!

WONK UNIT!   The spiritual “leaders” of the UK DIY Punk scene – with ‘Daddy Wonk’ holding court every time he is on stage.  Wonk Unit must have played more SCP gigs than any other band – they played our first, probably will play our last!  Should have a new album out by this gig too!
AERIAL SALAD – it’s about time this Manchester band came and played for us again, especially since they’ve trailed a blaze of glory in the DIY scene since we first put them on.
SPRAINER.  I believe Sprainer played their first gig for us – and opened one of our all dayers in total darkness without the mic turned on (wasn’t their fault!) – so real troopers.  The fact they play amazing tight sing-along melodic punk also stands them in good stead.  They seem so young (to us), but are already veterans of the punk scene.

Please note this is a THURSDAY NIGHT GIG!  Doors 7:30pm Thurs 18th November 2021 @ Mama Liz’s Voodoo Lounge, Stamford, PE9 1EL

Ticket are £10 for this one – as it’s a massive double headliner banger and it’s going to be a bit special like!  TICKETS HERE

Big Langs’ VIRTUAL BBQ…
A Tribute to Matthew Lancaster

*** DUE TO THE CURRENT CORONAVIRUS ISSUES – IT WOULD BE IRRESPONSIBLE FOR US TO BRING YOU ALL TOGETHER AT THIS TIME.  WE HOPE TO  RE-SCHEDULE A PHYSICAL GIG WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

BUT WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING SOONER – SO ARE ORGANISING A GREAT LINE-UP FOR A VIRTUAL GIG INSTEAD, STREAMING ON FACEBOOK.  IT WILL BE FREE – BUT WE WILL WELCOME DONATIONS AS WE STILL WISH TO DONATE TO THE LOCAL HOMELESS CHARITY THAT MATT WOULD HAVE APPROVED OF ***

Our mate and absolute punk-rock legend, Matthew ‘bomber’ Lancaster passed away on 18th August 2019.   He was always first down the front, first to dance, and last to leave at any punk gig he attended – and he went to a LOT of gigs.   Bands around the world knew him – who could miss the loony with the smile plastered on his face and his special pointy dance, crowd surfing, and just all-round fucking good guy.  We know what he’d want in his remembrance would be a bloody big gig – full of happy people, having a dance down the front in his name.

JOIN THIS FACEBOOK GROUPhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/534391720577300/  as it will be streamed there.  If you join upfront you will receive notifications as each artist goes live with their set.

So we’re joining forces with No Gods No Managers to put on one hell of a show on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th May – no longer can it be the original BBQ & Bands events it was going to be – for obvious reasons.  But you can still do your own BBQ, have a few beers chilled and ready, and join us in the daft chat as we enjoy at least six acts per night!

Matty’s brother Paul suggested it be a fundraiser to support homelessness as this was a cause close to his heart, so it’s going to be that too x – the fund-raiser page is here; https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/biglangsgig

Skate-Aid 6 DIY Punk All Dayer

Skate-aid 6 with Wonk unit

14 acts, one massive all dayer of a punk gig!  Our Skate-aid 6 all-dayer is our biggest diy punk gig of the year, taking over upstairs and downstairs, inside and outside!  We start with three great bands downstairs, then back up to the beer garden for an amazing vegan BBQ outside by our good mates at Resist! Vegan Kitchen.  Enjoy the June sun as you chill with a cold drink, decent food, great company, and FOUR acoustic acts in the back bar.

Probably a specially brewed beer again, helping to raise money for Skate-aid charity.  Possibly a few stalls too – and all in aid of Skate-aid charity, raising funds to put skate-parks in some of the worlds most deprived areas of the world.

Our headliner is once again the mighty kings of the DIY punk scene in the UK – WONK UNIT!   Alex Wonk brings the gang back once more to play one of our gigs – it’s a Scary Clown Presents institution!
