Wonk Unit + The Deadites @ Ostrich Inn, Peterborough

wonk unit and deadites gig Peterborough
Yes you’ve read that right… the UK DIY Punk kings WONK UNIT are back from their huge European tour and are heading to Peterborough – and playing our favourite boozer: The Ostrich Inn.
That’s just amazing…. so how about we make it FREE ENTRY too!
Full band Wonk Unit, plus Peterborough’s finest melodic punk band The Deadites, who will have copies of their new album (on SCP records), Deadites II.
Facebook even page here – please come and say you’re coming if you are – we suggest turn up early as it may fill up!

We will make sure it’s wrapped up by 10.30pm as it’s a school night.  You’ll be able to tell your grandchildren (or someone else’s!) about this one – I doubt it will ever repeat!

Deadites will probably kick off by 8pm.
Venue:  2022 CAMRA pub of the year (Peterborough); The Ostrich Inn is our favourite city center boozer – it’s a ‘local’ pub, with proper characters behind the bar.  It’s probably the worst shape for a gig ever, but the owner landlords have put in a stage area, lighting, PA and sound desk, and you know what, gigs do work there.  It’s as intimate as you’ll ever find!  We’ve had far bigger names in the pub than anyone would ever think, and had some right rowdy nights!  They do great real ales, some craft keg beers, great gins, and hot pies.  It’s not a foodie pub, but you’re in the town center with lots of other grub choices nearby.   There’s a decent-sized car park opposite the pub entrance.  Also a cracking small beer garden outback.   IT WILL BE RAMMED FULL on the night, our gigs always are.

Skate-aid 8, Punk Rock All Dayer Gig!

Skate-aid 8 all day gig

The Scary Clown Presents…

SKATE-AID 8 With Culture Shock

Charity Punk Rock All Dayer @ Mama Lizs

The Scary Clown Presents annual all-dayer is back! Raising funds for Skate-aid and having a raucous time whilst doing it. Expect bands from across the UK, including acoustic acts and some of the best underground DIY bands both new and old. One-off craft beer, vegan BBQ and wall-to-wall good times x   We are so pleased to finally bring headliners CULTURE SHOCK along to Stamford, it’s a band we’ve been fans of for more years than some of you younger ones have been on this planet.

The day starts at 1pm – when we might start the BBQ up in the lower beer garden.  First music is 1.30pm down in the Voodoo Lounge… then after 4 bands some chill time upstairs for food and acoustic session in the main bar’s backroom.  Then at 6pm we return to the Voodoo Lounge for six more full-on bands!

Children welcome to the upstairs part (no tix required for food/acoustic session) – teenagers are good to all with a responsible adult.  Tickets are required for the 10 bands playing down in the Voodoo Lounge.  Raising money for our regular chosen charity, SKATE-AID – helping kids in war-torn and deprived areas across the world play again.

  • I went out last night to watch Wonk drummer Max Hanman’s band [Sid]. I see hundreds of bands year in year out and so rarely does the music move me. I honestly didn’t expect what I saw. For 20 minutes I forgot to fuckin breathe. Not since the formation of Slaves (and then Clowns) have I seen such a perfect set. Crossover hardcore at its BEST. I’m not saying this coz he’s my friend and drummer. I’m saying this to all my punk friends and promoters because you gotta get on these lovely people. It was the best set of this kind of music I’ve EVER seen. PURE HARDCORE PERFECTION. This was like their 4th gig but they play like they’ve been doing it for years. I would have had to up my game last night not to be blown off stage.  I’m so honoured to have Max in my life, thank you so much for reaffirming my faith in music. XxxAlex Wonk

The Deadites, Greg Rekus and Tim Holehouse @ Ostrich Inn

The Deadites, Tim Holehouse, Greg Rekus, and Steve J Allen Gig

Local legends The Deadites, once local Steve Allen, plus Greg Rekus and Tim Holehouse make welcome returns to The Ostrich Inn, Peterborough.

Both Greg and Tim are old friends of the Scary Clown Presents, and also have warm memories of the Ostrich Inn.  Probably the hardest touring duo you’ll ever meet – we’re not sure Tim Holehouse even knows where he lives, as he’s constantly touring the world with his stunning delta blues voice.  Greg Rekus always ends every performance a total sweaty mess, as he always puts 100% effort into every show – putting his body and reputation on the line every time.

You hopefully already know the lovely lads who are The Deadites – they round the show off with their soulful melodic punk.

Opening the show and a late addition is Steve Allen, who is a singer Songwriter of original acoustic punk & folk, featured on BBC Introducing on Radio 6.

So this gig is totally free – we’ll probably kick off about 7.30pm – bring money* for drink and merch – buying something from an act really does help them out! * the bar takes card and cash, but bands normally need cold-hard Sterling!

Let us know you’re coming on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/events/3726848310872907  and please do share the event there and tell yer mates!

Skate-Aid 6 DIY Punk All Dayer

Skate-aid 6 with Wonk unit

14 acts, one massive all dayer of a punk gig!  Our Skate-aid 6 all-dayer is our biggest diy punk gig of the year, taking over upstairs and downstairs, inside and outside!  We start with three great bands downstairs, then back up to the beer garden for an amazing vegan BBQ outside by our good mates at Resist! Vegan Kitchen.  Enjoy the June sun as you chill with a cold drink, decent food, great company, and FOUR acoustic acts in the back bar.

Probably a specially brewed beer again, helping to raise money for Skate-aid charity.  Possibly a few stalls too – and all in aid of Skate-aid charity, raising funds to put skate-parks in some of the worlds most deprived areas of the world.

Our headliner is once again the mighty kings of the DIY punk scene in the UK – WONK UNIT!   Alex Wonk brings the gang back once more to play one of our gigs – it’s a Scary Clown Presents institution!
